About the SK1 Chair:

The chair is designed by Kasper Salto — a renowned furniture designer and trained cabinetmaker — known for creating elegant, functional pieces for homes, workplaces, and public institutions. With the KS1 Chair, Salto set out to design a fundamental, well-balanced chair using as few materials as possible. Its clear and inviting expression makes it ideal for churches, cultural venues, and spaces where aesthetics and practicality must coexist.

Salto aimed to create an archetypal chair with strong construction and durable joints, ensuring it would withstand use over generations. “While developing the KS1, I looked at countless chairs and realized that stackable chairs made entirely from solid wood are actually quite rare,” he explains. “Most include molded plywood parts, which require more resources — including glue and heat — during production.”

The KS1’s construction is straightforward, making the strength and precision of each joint crucial. To ensure durability, Salto built the first prototype himself. The chair is produced by OneCollection, a Danish company known for its craftsmanship and its production of House of Finn Juhl furniture. The KS1 is made at their workshop in Vejen, Denmark, using solid FSC-certified oak, beech, or ash, with a seat available in black or natural webbing (made from 90% recycled cotton) or upholstered fabric.
