In 1949, a young Hans J. Wegner spent three intense weeks in Odense working with Carl Hansen & Søn. Out of that collaboration came four — later five — chairs that would go on to define modern Danish furniture design. Today, they’re known as Wegner’s First Masterpieces: the CH22, CH23, CH24, CH25 and CH26. Each one is a distinct sculptural expression of Wegner’s exceptional craftsmanship and his deep understanding of the relationship between form and comfort.
CH22 Lounge Chair
A welcoming, armchair-like design with flowing armrests and a hand-woven paper cord seat — built for comfort as much as presence.
CH23 Dining Chair
Understated at first glance, the CH23 reveals its craftsmanship the closer you look — a quietly refined dining chair with meticulous detailing throughout.
CH24 Wishbone Chair
Perhaps the most iconic chair in modern design history. Its Y-shaped backrest — merging armrest and backrest into a single steam-bent form — has made it a design classic since 1950.
CH25 Lounge Chair
A sculptural lounge chair with one of the most demanding hand-woven seats in the collection, requiring around 400 metres of paper cord per chair.
CH26 Dining Chair
Designed alongside the CH22 but only rediscovered in Wegner’s archive decades later, the CH26 brings organic, sculptural lines to the dining table.
