Finn Juhl Wall Sofa

Finn Juhl showcased this sofa in several of his interior design projects, such as the Villa Aubertin in Denmark, which he designed in 1952. It is also exhibited at the Nordenfjeldske Museum of Decorative Arts and Design in Trondheim, Norway. At the museum, he was commissioned to design an exhibition space featuring modern furniture that reflected the craftsmanship and interior style of 1952.

The Wall Sofa Design by Finn Juhl:

Finn Juhl presented this sofa in several of his interior design projects such as the Villa Aubertin in Denmark, which he designed in 1952, also on display at the Museum Nordenfjeldske Kunstindustri-Museum in Trondheim, Norway. In the museum he was commissioned to design an exhibition space with modern furniture related to handicrafts, representing a modern interior style from 1952.

The Wall Sofa from 1950 is not only an excellent example of Finn Juhl’s inspiration from the so-called free art of his time, but also of his cross-border ambition to defy gravity and create movement. The asymmetrical, excessively upholstered backrest floats almost like a cloud by René Magritte above the floating seat, which is supported by an almost invisible frame. The unusually shaped backrest is well adapted to the body and allows several comfortable sitting positions.

The sofa is covered with fabric by hand. The lacquered frame made of powder-coated tubular steel is mounted on the wall, hence the name of the sofa.
